It all begins one evening in November, when Daniel Mercier, a minor accountant persecuted by his boss, decides to treat himself to a "royal" seafood platter in a Parisian brasserie. And there, to his surprise, President François Mitterrand comes and sits next to him. It's one of the biggest events in Mercier's life. Then, when the president gets up to leave, he forgets his hat!

It's the beginning of a crazy adventure. The hat gets stolen, lost, snatched up, found again, stolen again... passing from head to head and changing the destinies of people who didn't expect to meet, to love and... to see their lives change in such a radical way!

Tout commence un soir de Novembre, lorsque Daniel Mercier, petit comptable persécuté par son chef décide, pour se consoler, de s’offrir un « Plateau Royal » dans une brasserie… Ô surprise, vient s’installer à côté de lui…le président François Mitterrand en personne… Le choc pour Mercier qui vit là un moment important de son existence. Et lorsque le président s’en va… il a oublié son chapeau!

C’est le début d’une aventure complètement folle: tour à tour volé, perdu, récupéré, revolé, repris, ce chapeau porte-bonheur, passe de tête en tête…bouscule le destin d’êtres qui ne s’attendaient pas à se croiser, à s’aimer et … à voir leur vie changer de façon aussi radicale: devenir directeur, rompre avec son amant, retrouver son talent, de tyran se métamorphoser en bienfaiteur.
