Nadia, an army doctor based in Afghanistan, is ambushed and captured by the Taliban. The Afghan officer taken hostage with her is shot dead, while Nadia is unexpectedly set free on the orders of a Pashtun chief fighting alongside the Taliban. Her superiors are very surprised that she has been

spared, and she confesses that she knows the man who ordered her to be freed. His name is Hassan Walli, and she met him ten years previously in Paris, along with his sister Tamana… It's a stroke of luck for the French army, which is working on turning Afghan chiefs against the Taliban.

The intelligence services give Nadia a high risk mission: to contact Hassan through his sister, and convince him to give up the fight and rally to the Karzai government underpinned by the allied forces.

Alors que ses supérieurs s’étonnent qu’elle ait été épargnée, Nadia avoue avoir identifié l’homme qui a ordonné qu’elle soit relâchée : il s’agit d’Hassan Walli, qu’elle a bien connu dix ans plus tôt à Paris, ainsi que sa sœur Tamana…. Une aubaine pour les militaires français qui cherchent à retourner des chefs pachtounes alliés aux Talibans. Nadia se voit alors confiée par ses services secrets une mission à hauts risques : reprendre contact avec Hassan par le biais de sa sœur, pour le convaincre de renoncer à la lutte armée et de rallier le gouvernement Karzaï soutenu par la coalition.
