Mainland France is at war, but here in Algeria life goes on the same as always. Between the two lies the sea, protective and the source of dreams. Benjamin, Kateb and Antoine are three teenagers from three religious backgrounds (Jewish, Muslim and Christian) who never should have met. But they share the same passion for football and the same disregard for the disapproving looks which their unusual friendship draws. They are just three carefree young boys, until the Vichy regime in France repeals the Crémieux Decree. Benjamin now loses what Kateb never had: his French nationality. But why should Benjamin feel resentful, asks Kateb, how can being French help him? An abstract question that becomes terribly relevant to the three youngsters, and may even destroy their friendship.

Là bas en Métropole, la guerre. Ici en Algérie , la vie continue presque comme avant... Entre les deux, il y a la mer. Qui protège et qui fait rêver.

Trois adolescents appartenant aux trois communautés religieuses en présence (juive, musulmane et chrétienne) – Benjamin, Kateb et Antoine n’auraient jamais du se rencontrer.

Seulement voilà, ils partagent la même passion : le football ! Alors ils font fi des regards de travers qui s’étonnent de leur exceptionnelle amitié.

Trois jeunes garçons insouciants jusqu’au jour où Vichy abroge le décret Crémieux. Et voilà que Benjamin perd ce que n’a jamais réussi à obtenir Kateb : la nationalité française ! Et voilà que Kateb rappelle à Benjamin qu’il a bien tort de se sentir blessé, à quoi bon être français. Et voilà qu’une question apparemment abstraite prend dans l’histoire de ces trois là une résonance terriblement concrète. Aura-t-elle raison de leur amitié?
